Promise to increase Govt. servants salaries by Rs. 2500 still pending ; Ministers’ salary increases by 70,000 to 170,000/- implemented –Ranil Wickremesinghe

Addressing the Gampaha District UNP convention at Gampaha Town Hall on the 3rd , UNF leader Ranil Wickremesinghe stated , the salary increase of Rs. 2500/- promised to the Govt. servants at the last Presidential election has still not been fulfilled by the Govt. ,but the Govt. increased the salaries of the Ministers from Rs. 70,000 to 170,000/- per month in 2009 without any demur.

Gen. Sarath Fonseka, who is being arbitrarily imprisoned by the government, commenced a hunger strike since this morning. He has started the hunger strike against the violation of his fundamental rights ensured by the Judiciary. This was revealed at a meeting held at the office of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) today (7th).
Bonjour film festival to open in Colombo

ImageThe Bonjour Film Festival will be held from 19th to 23rd of March 2010 at Bandaranayake Centre for International Studies (BCIS) at BMICH.
Twelve films will be screened for adults and four films which have been produced for children. Plans have been made to screen films from France, Canada, Switzerland and Belgium with English subtitles.
There will be three shows daily at 2.30, 4.30 and 7.00 p.m.

Emergency passed by majority of 69

The state of emergency was passed in Parliament a short while ago with a majority vote of 69. During voting 93 voted for and 24 against. The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), United National Party (UNP), Mano ganeshan and the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) voted against.
