Committee concludes probe on Mervin, final report next week

JVP to file objections

The JVP will file objections at the Supreme Court today against the proposed 18th amendment to the constitution, JVP media unit said in a statement. The Supreme Court is to take up the bill on the government’s proposed constitutional amendments today.
Go for a referendum: UNP challenges Government

The proposed constitutional amendments do not reflect the wishes of the people. The government should hold a referendum to obtain the people’s consent. The United National Party (UNP) challenges the government to go for a referendum, said party General Secretary Tissa Attanayake.
Laugfs gas comes down: Shell unchanged

The price of a 12.5 kilogram cylinder of Laugfs domestic LP gas has been reduced by Rs. 46 with effect from midnight today (August 31). The revised price will be Rs. 1593. Shell LP domestic gas prices will however remain unchanged at Rs. 1,652 per 12.5 kg cylinder.
